Overview:

Performs supervisory duties directing activities of work crew in HVAC , Electrical, construction, repair, maintenance, equipment operations and landscaping functions.

Duties/Functions

Performs duties and/or supervisor duties in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of complex commercial and industrial electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Detects difficult and complex causes of electrical failures in equipment and wiring; maintains and repairs variable frequency electrical motor drives; maintains and repairs generators, switchgear, transformers, motors, relays, switches, fixtures, high and low voltage feeder circuits and cables, and various other electrical equipment and electronic devices. Interprets and prepares technical sketches for various electrical systems; ensures compliance with electrical codes; performs calculations for electrical layouts and installations.

Performs duties and/or supervisor duties of HVAC Technician performing duties related to installing, maintaining and repairing various types of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilating systems. Employees in this class perform a wide variety of mechanical, electrical and electronic maintenance and repair on various types of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, ranging from basic wall or window units and central systems to some large commercial units (e. g. 360-ton chillers; 120-ton condensers.)

Performs supervisory duties and participates in the maintenance and repair in skilled, specialized or technical trades work related to maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and related systems and equipment to enhance and maintain assets. Serves as principal Supervisor to a building maintenance superintendent in directing general maintenance and repair activities in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and General Building Maintenance on municipal buildings, facilities, and equipment; Supervise routine checks, troubleshooting malfunctions, replacing parts as needed, and ensuring proper operation of lift station system; instructs personnel in use of safe work practices.

Supervises the work of one or more crews engaged in any of the following activities: the application of slag to road beds; the maintenance and construction of wooden bridges; the laying of culverts and drain pipes; the building, dismantling, and rebuilding of fences; the patching of paved roads; the cleaning of buildings and grounds; the clearing of rights of way; the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater lines, meters and force mains; the operation of machines for painting road center lines; the installation and repair of irrigation systems; the planting, care and maintenance of lawns, plants, trees, and shrubs; the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides; and grafting, plant propagation, and landscaping.

Provides training, guidance, and assistance to subordinates.

Helps resolve job related problems; and reviews work for compliance with plans, codes, standards and regulations.

NATURE OF WORK

Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Heavy Work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Very Heavy Work – Exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL EFFORT

The employee will work in a variety of outdoor/indoor environments including construction sites roadway maintenance, maintenance shops and natural resource areas.

This position will work in all types of weather conditions and environments including but not limited to possible high, precarious places and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the environment is quiet to loud.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear; and smell.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND

Work Experience:

Two years of experience as a supervisor of a construction, maintenance, Electrical, HVAC or landscaping crew; OR

an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted Above AND

Licenses/

Certifications:

A valid Florida Driver’s License or Commercial Driver License (CDL).
