Engagement Overview
Progent is seeking an Independent Data Center & Infrastructure Consultant to support a key customer in Tampa, FL (33637). This role focuses on hands-on data center operations, infrastructure maintenance, and lifecycle management, with a mix of remote support and onsite execution.
While most work occurs during standard business hours, this role includes participation in scheduled maintenance windows, which may occur during evenings or weekends with advance notice. In addition to this Tampa-based engagement, qualified consultants will be eligible for additional remote and onsite projects with other Progent customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform data center operations and maintenance, including rack-and-stack, structured cabling, hardware replacement, and equipment decommissioning
- Execute scheduled maintenance window activities, including upgrades, migrations, firmware updates, and hardware refreshes
- Support enterprise infrastructure components, including compute, storage, and networking platforms
- Coordinate and perform hardware installations, moves, adds, and changes (IMACs) in production data center environments
- Monitor infrastructure health and respond to incidents affecting availability and performance
- Work with vendors and internal teams on break/fix, RMAs, and lifecycle management
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability architectures
- Maintain accurate documentation of data center layouts, assets, change records, and procedures
- Provide Tier 2 infrastructure support both onsite and remotely as required
Required Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience supporting on-premises and colocation data center environments
- Strong understanding of data center operations, including power, cooling, cabling standards, and physical security
- Experience working with enterprise infrastructure from Cisco (networking), Dell and HPE (servers), and NetApp (storage)
- Solid networking expertise, including switches, routers, firewalls, and data center connectivity
- Experience supporting virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, or similar) at the infrastructure layer
- Familiarity with hybrid infrastructure and disaster recovery models
- Ability to operate independently as a business owner while collaborating with a distributed consulting team
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and client communication skills
Consultant Requirements
- Must be an independent consultant or business owner operating on a 1099 basis
- Daytime availability during standard business hours is required
- Willingness and ability to participate in scheduled maintenance windows, including evenings or weekends as needed
- Ability to travel to Tampa, FL 33637 for onsite data center work
- Comfortable working in production data center environments and adhering to formal change-management processes

Pay: $63.00 – $75.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10.0 – 30.0 per week
