Schedule/Hours: M – F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

This position offers practical work experience, an introduction to IT desktop support and an opportunity to gain experience with the technical operations of a nonprofit organization. This opportunity will involve challenging tasks, real technical projects, and interaction with staff. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the computer field. This position will also prepare college students, and recent graduates for entry into the business world by providing a thorough understanding of the Information Technology functions of Salvation Army to include theory and practical application of attained knowledge. This will provide direct technical assistance and support to Salvation Army staff for network, hardware, and software on desktops and laptops, resolving internet and network access issues (both wired and wireless), providing network printer support, meeting with staff to provide one-on-one technical assistance as needed/requested. Providing training to staff on software and hardware use, determining causes of computer/software/network malfunctions though evaluation and testing and resolution via modification, repair, or external support assistance. This is a 90-day appointed, may extend no longer than 120 days. On the job training will occur at the direction of the manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn and Develop skills in information technology to include networking of computers, system wide back up of data, and storage of data.
  • Develop skills to communicate with IT professionals who specialize in System Software Design Engineering and Computer Programming.
  • Escalate problems to other team members or managers as needed.
  • May assist in managing, maintaining, developing, designing, and updating the intranet.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the capabilities of computers and peripheral devices.

Knowledge of hardware and software databases available to end users as well as all versions of Windows, Lotus Notes, Internet interface, and LANS operating systems.

Knowledge of the process is employed to determine the applicability of a specific product to a given functional area.

Knowledge of the computer operating systems used by the Information Technology Department in depth is sufficient to accurately and completely tarin users in the methods and procedures.

Knowledge of effective presentation skills.

Ability to demonstrate solid troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work under supervision.

Ability to demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team-based environment independent worker.

Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage time.

Ability to conduct and lead group presentations.

Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy computer equipment (25-50lbs) on a frequent basis.

Physical ability to “team lift” heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (50-100lbs) occasionally

Ability to stoop crawl and

climb when necessary.

Physical demands include; standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and moving computer items as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

  • Completion or actively enrolled in an accredited two-year technical college program in Information Technology or Related; AND
  • Experience performing computer repair work with some experience providing desk side remote incident resolution and support of computer applications preferred; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License (May be required to perform job)

One or more relevant certifications are preferred upon hire.
