Senior Project Manager – Commercial & Industrial (Publix Projects)

Position Overview
Lead end-to-end delivery of commercial and industrial construction projects with a primary focus on Publix retail builds and remodels. Responsible for driving project execution from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, on budget, and to client specifications. Serve as the primary client contact, coordinate multi-discipline teams, administer contracts, and maintain high standards for quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full project lifecycle for commercial and industrial projects, including pre-construction, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Act as primary point of contact for Publix stakeholders and other clients; maintain strong relationships and clear, timely communication.
  • Prepare, monitor and control project budgets and cost forecasts; identify cost-saving opportunities and manage change orders.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce project schedules; coordinate subcontractors and internal teams to meet milestone dates and accelerate recovery when needed.
  • Administer contracts, subcontracts, scopes of work, and insurance requirements; ensure compliance with contract terms and company policies.
  • Oversee site safety and quality assurance programs; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company safety standards.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, and shop drawing reviews; ensure timely resolution of field questions and technical issues.
  • Use project management tools and documentation systems for accurate reporting, recordkeeping, and collaboration (Procore knowledge is a plus).
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans; escalate issues and provide recommendations to senior leadership as required.
  • Mentor and lead project teams, including superintendents and project engineers; drive continuous improvement and best practices across projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of project management experience in commercial and industrial construction.
  • Proven track record managing retail buildouts, remodels, or similar projects for Publix or equivalent national grocery/retail clients.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to manage multi-discipline teams, subcontractors, and client relationships.
  • Solid knowledge of construction processes, means and methods, and quality control practices.
  • Experience administering contracts, change orders, RFIs, and field documentation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills; able to present status and recommendations to clients and executive leadership.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Nice-to-have: OSHA 30, PMP certification, Procore experience, prior retail (grocery) project experience, and familiarity with budgets, RFIs, and scheduling tools.
