Major Function

The Director of IT is responsible for leading technology operations across all Pepin Academies campuses. This position develops and maintains a long-range technology plan and provides strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership to keep cloud services, networks, devices, data, and support systems secure, reliable, and aligned with the organization’s instructional, operational, and strategic priorities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Cloud Systems Management: Manage Pepin Academies’ cloud environment, including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, licensing, access, and key integrations. Monitor configuration, performance, licensing, and usage; address issues; and keep services secure, reliable, documented, cost-effective, and aligned with organizational needs.
  • Network Engineering and Management: Design, manage, document, and troubleshoot Pepin Academies’ multi-campus network infrastructure, including Ubiquiti switches, access points, firewalls, internet connections, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and monitoring.
  • Device Procurement and Management: Set device standards, plan budgets and replacement cycles, approve purchases, and oversee deployment of Windows 11 and iOS/iPadOS devices through Microsoft Intune, Jamf School, Apple School Manager, and Incident IQ.
  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 Support: Serve as the escalation point for complex campus technology issues beyond Campus Technology Coordinator support. Troubleshoot networks, devices, Microsoft 365 services, applications, accounts, and integrations, and coordinate with vendors or contractors as needed.
  • Cybersecurity: Set and maintain security standards, access controls, endpoint protection, patching, monitoring, backups, recovery, and incident-response practices. Lead responses to security events and coordinate cybersecurity, disaster-recovery, and staff awareness efforts.
  • Data Compliance: Protect student, employee, and organizational data through appropriate access, secure transfer, retention, backup, and vendor practices. Oversee key services and integrations, including GoDaddy and Couchdrop, consistent with Pepin Academies policy and K–12 privacy requirements.
  • Project Planning and Management: Lead technology projects from planning through implementation. Develop budgets, plan major investments, manage vendor contracts and renewals, set scope and timelines, monitor risks, keep leadership informed, and ensure completed projects are documented and transitioned into support.
  • Team Management: Lead the IT team and oversee daily operations. Set priorities, allocate resources, establish service expectations, maintain policies and documentation, oversee escalations, ensure consistent campus support, and communicate needs, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
  • Five or more years of progressive IT experience across networks, cloud services, endpoints, cybersecurity, data, and escalated support, including staff or technical team leadership.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, project-management, documentation, and service skills, with current knowledge of technology trends, security practices, and K–12 solutions.
  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards related to technology, cybersecurity, privacy, accessibility, records, and student data in K–12 education. Must use sound judgment, manage competing priorities, explain technical issues clearly, and work effectively across campuses and departments.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and pass all required pre-employment, fingerprinting, and background screenings.Must communicate effectively in English and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation for regular travel between Pepin Academies campuses and other work locations.
  • Must work regular hours with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, after-hours maintenance, projects, and urgent technology or security needs.
  • Must support Pepin Academies’ mission, goals, and strategic plan while demonstrating civility, respect, professionalism, and sound judgment.
