Great Opportunity to Move Beyond the Traditional CPA Firm and Expand Your Career!

Tax & Financial Planning Consultant

Our client, an established and respected wealth management and financial planning firm in Northwest Tampa, is seeking an experienced tax professional who enjoys tax work but wants to become more involved in proactive tax planning and broader financial advisory services.

You’ve started to build a solid career in tax. You’re comfortable preparing and reviewing returns, working with clients, and navigating complex tax issues. But are you ready to put that expertise to work in a role that goes beyond traditional tax compliance?

This opportunity combines hands-on tax preparation with the chance to work closely with experienced wealth advisors, helping develop tax-efficient strategies for individuals, families, trusts, estates, and business owners.

Rather than focusing exclusively on tax returns and filing deadlines, you’ll have the opportunity to see how your tax expertise contributes to clients’ overall financial picture and long-term financial goals.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare and review federal and state individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including complex returns for high-net-worth individuals.
  • Prepare and review fiduciary income tax returns for trusts and estates (Form 1041).
  • Prepare and review S corporation (Form 1120-S) and partnership (Form 1065) tax returns as needed.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide proactive tax planning recommendations.
  • Work closely with wealth advisors and financial planners to develop tax-efficient strategies tailored to clients’ broader financial goals.
  • Assist with tax considerations involving investments, retirement distributions, trusts, estates, and wealth preservation.
  • Work directly with clients to address tax questions, explain planning opportunities, and build long-term professional relationships.
  • Support the firm’s existing tax department with tax preparation, review, research, and planning responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ideal candidate will have 5–8 years of solid tax experience, preferably in a public accounting or CPA firm environment. Tax experience must be current and relevant to the position.
  • Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing individual income tax returns (Form 1040) and trust and estate income tax returns (Form 1041).
  • Experience preparing and reviewing S corporation (Form 1120-S) and partnership (Form 1065) tax returns.
  • CPA preferred. Candidates actively pursuing CPA certification with demonstrated progress toward completing the examination process will also be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with clients.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented approach and a genuine interest in expanding into proactive tax planning and wealth management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, and business owners.
  • Experience providing proactive tax planning advice.
  • Familiarity with retirement-related taxation, estate planning, or investment-related tax considerations.
  • CFP, PFS, or an interest in pursuing additional financial planning credentials.
  • Experience in a smaller or mid-sized CPA firm with direct client responsibilities.
