Overview

As a Senior Java Backend Developer, you’ll design, build, and maintain backend systems that power reliable, scalable applications. You’ll work across application design, system design, APIs, and distributed systems, partnering with product and engineering colleagues through the software development life cycle (SDLC).

Duties

  • Develop Java services and RESTful APIs using sound software design and object-oriented programming (OOP) practices.
  • Design microservices, database structures, and integrations with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Improve scalability and reliability through multithreading, debugging, unit testing, and thoughtful distributed computing patterns.
  • Contribute to code reviews, version control, and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows using tools such as Git.
  • Collaborate in Agile software development and Scrum, document designs with Unified Modeling Language (UML), and support production services.
  • Your impact: Build dependable backend services that help users access application features consistently and help teams deliver changes with confidence.

Experience

  • Strong professional experience with Java, backend development, APIs, SQL, and web services; practical knowledge of Hibernate or another persistence framework is valuable.
  • Experience with system design, application development, distributed systems, database design, and unit testing.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, Linux, JSON, XML, and build or deployment workflows is beneficial.
  • Front-end development exposure, including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, HTML, or CSS, is a plus.
  • Additional exposure to.NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, ASP, Entity Framework, Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, WCF, SOAP, Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails, Drupal, Visual Studio, Eclipse, SVN, TFS, IIS, Bootstrap, AJAX, XSLT, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Bash, or shell scripting is welcome.

Pay: $18.00 – $180.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
