Accountant I

This is a highly responsible, independent position, in which the employee will work within Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR), My Florida Market Place (MFMP), Statewide Travel Management System (STMS) and the purchasing card system (Works)to process payments. Duties will include auditing and processing vendor payments, as well as auditing and approving travel reimbursements and purchasing card payments. The salary for this position includes a competitive area differential of $24.80 bi-weekly. This position will report to the Department of Health located in downtown St. Petersburg, FL.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Compare invoices with purchase orders to verify all information
- Create invoices within MFMP, verifying goods and services have been received by the program departments
- Research and analyze invoices for duplicate payments
- Provide support to program staff relating to accounts payable and travel policies and processes
- Prepare journal transfers
- Reconcile FLAIR encumbrance file with tracking spreadsheets
- Assist with training of staff for STMS and Works systems
- Maintain tracking spreadsheets and notify program staff of issues with timeliness compliance
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to an accounting program
- Aptitude to work independently and as part of a team
- Skill in using basic office equipment, including phone, fax, and copiers
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in accounts payable or auditing
- Experience working with MFMP
- Experience working in FLAIR
- Knowledge of State of Florida Travel reimbursement policies and procedures
- Knowledge of State of Florida State Purchasing Card policies and procedures
