Department:  Public Works

Location:  New Port Richey

General Description:  Responsible and advanced clerical work, which includes administrative responsibility. May perform bookkeeping work in compiling, maintaining, and reviewing of fiscal records. Provides customer services by phone, in-person and through mail (electronic and hard copy).

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:  All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.Essential Job Functions

  • Operates computers, printers, scanners, and/or related equipment. 
  • Responsible for copy typing and formatting correspondence, legal documents, manuals, narrative and complicated statistical material, and other unique documents. 
  • Proofreads own work and corrects formatting, grammatical, and spelling errors.  
  • Edits and changes sentence structure to improve understanding of narrative material. 
  • Edits documents to ensure County policies are incorporated within documents. 
  • Drafts, proofreads, and processes reports, letters, and documents for supervisor’s signature.
  • Assist with incoming phone calls, and refers calls to other employees, officials or Departments when necessary.
  • Works overtime as required to meet project deadlines and/or backlog.  
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of some bookkeeping functions.
  • Knowledge of the overall functions and operations of the unit to which assigned.
  • Ability to prepare routine documents and compose letters and memoranda.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with the departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum RequirementsPHYSICAL SKILLS:  Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree and one (1) year of experience OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years’ of secretarial and/or clerical experience including typing experience and the operation of a personal computer. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel.

In House Employees:  This position qualifies for DAP.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:  Must possess a valid driver’s license.
