The Office of Residence Life at The University of Tampa has an Area Coordinator position opening. The Area Coordinator is a professional, full-time, live-in staff member within the Office of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for the on-site management and overall supervision of a residential area totaling between 350 and 650 students and supervises a team of Resident Assistants. The Area Coordinator reports to an Assistant or Associate Director of Residence Life and shares on-call duty responsibilities for the residential campus totaling approximately 4,500 students. Evening and weekend commitments are required.
Benefits include: $35,568 annual salary
Benefits also include a furnished apartment, paid utilities, participation in a meal plan during the fall and spring semesters while classes are in session, cable television, and internet access. Please note as a contingency of employment, the on-campus apartment provided will be the primary residence of the residence life staff member. As a member of the Office of Residence Life, this position will be committed to supporting and implementing the educational plan of the Spartan Living residential curriculum. The Area Coordinator will guide staff members in learning experiences that develop students in the competencies of self-awareness, life skills, interpersonal abilities, teamwork, and global engagement.

1. Student Staff Selection, Training, Supervision and Development.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and schedule duty rotation.
- Monitor student staff performance and implement progressive discipline as needed.
- Incorporate weekly staff development, team-building activities, and staff appreciation.
- Actively participate in staff selection, training, curriculum, and continuous development and evaluation processes for student staff.
2. Administrative and Facilities Management.
- Supervise and assist staff in opening and closing of residential areas including student room check-in and check-out procedures.
- Evaluate condition of residence halls, submit and follow up with maintenance requests.
- Conduct weekly building walkthroughs.
- Utilize Residence by Symplicity for administrative and facilities management tasks (room condition reports, key distribution, occupancy reports, etc.).
- Responsible for master key security for residential areas.
- Coordinate regular room inspections.
- Oversee budget management for residential area.
3. Residence Life Education and Community Development.
- Oversee implementation of residential curriculum.
- Meet with students to resolve roommate conflicts and community living concerns.
- Identify, assist, and refer students who exhibitpersonal, social, academic and/or behavioral problems to appropriate campus offices.
- Maintain a high level of visibility within the assigned residential areas and be available to students.
- Respond to crises and engage appropriate staff members.
- Partner and communicate with family members of residents within FERPA guidelines.
- Oversee submission and follow up for all incident reports in residential area. Provide feedback and coaching to staff on incident response and documentation.
- Advise residence hall council.
4. General Responsibilities and Student Affairs Involvement.
- Participate in residence life strategic planning and assessment efforts.
- Serve on evening and weekend duty rotation.
- Manage special projects determined in conjunction with supervisor including but not limited to living- learning communities, technology, assessment, and staff evaluations.
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities and share insights and learning to inform residence life educational practice.
- Participate in Student Affairs committees, exchanges, and advances.
- Attend university, divisional and departmental functions throughout the academic year.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Office of Residence Life.
5. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree required with one year full time experience.
2. Masters Degree preferred in Student Personnel or related field.
3. One (1) year live-in residence life experience preferred.
4. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
5. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills.
6. Ability to establish priorities and manage time wisely.
7. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
8. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
9. Attend trainings and fully engage in learning and utilizing university-wide technology, specifically WorkDay, and other department specific technology platforms.
