Position Details

The Athletic Department at The University of Tampa has an available position for an Assistant Director, Athletic Communications. This position is responsible for providing support for the communications needs and social media, media relations and public relations for the Athletics Department and assigned sports programs.

Responsibilities
1. Write and edit website and social media content, press releases, game-day programs, and special assignments.
2. Write/produce sports feature stories.
3. Report results to local and regional media.
4. Gather and compile statistical information through Statcrew/Genius/Presto Stats.
5. Manage official athletic department social media accounts, and maintain direct oversight to part-time positions charged with managing athletic department and team accounts.
6. Ensure that social media calendar for all official accounts is being tracked and properly followed.
7. Serve as the lead graphic designer within the department.
8. Play a secondary role to the director in ensuring that athletics web site information is current by monitoring site for quality, supervising and assigning ongoing regular updating of information (team schedules, rosters, coach and student-athlete biographical information, results, statistics, photographs), and updating promotional and other content for athletics development.
9. Ensure athletics web site and other media comply with University guidelines, including accessibility and style, by coordinating with the Office of Public Information. Knowledge of AP style is required.
10. Assist in the management of daily operations in the Athletic Communications office by participating in the development and implementation of office procedures and administrative office functions including the hiring, scheduling, supervision, and training of office staff and student assistants.
11. Abide by and comply with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Sunshine State Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and report any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics or the Assistant Director for Athletics Compliance.
12. Participate in various community service projects and committees representing the University and the Athletic Department.
13. Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development seminars, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and/or Director of Athletics.
14. Contribute to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and/or Director of Athletics.
15. Evening and weekend work is required.
16. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field is required, as well as an understanding of athletic communications/media relations and the ability to write press releases. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Three to five years’ experience in athletic communications/media relations at the college/university level.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Strong organizational skills.
5. Ability to operate in a professional manner with various members of the media.
6. A strong understanding of athletic communications and media relations.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks on tight deadlines.
8. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, InDesign and Premier.
9. Knowledge of Statcrew, Genius and/or Presto statistical software is required.
10. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
11. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Summer Schedule: Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Nights and weekends for designated sports and events required.
