ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Housing & Residential Education provides a safe and secure living environment for residents in addition to promoting the academic success and intellectual development of student residents. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director for Housing & Residential Education Facilities Maintenance oversees maintenance of all residential buildings including HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical, carpentry and other basic maintenance issues. Responsible for implementation of best practices for routine/preventative maintenance program and emergency response. This is a working supervisor role coaching, directing and leading a team of maintenance technicians. Responsible for recruiting, developing and evaluating maintenance staff. Acting as a liaison to Housing procurement & logistics to include approving purchase of supplies, services and materials. Position is considered essential personnel, participates on-call rotation and reports to the Associate Director of Housing Facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership, management, supervision and over site for the Housing Facilities Maintenance unit, which consists of 20 personnel working one shift and after hours emergency coverage. The decisions and execution of this position have significant impact on the student success and housing retention. Responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of the department function in a smooth and efficient manner. Responsible for developing a cohesive team environment for the entire department by working with peer units, students, campus partners and vendors. Responsible for recruiting, developing, motivating, and evaluating department staff.
Manages deferred maintenance expenditures in the range of 2 million dollars annually. Supervises managers in procurement and logistics for parts, materials and services. Meets regularly with capital improvement staff in communication and development of maintenance standards.
Develop policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently manage the maintenance services unit. Communicates departmental and divisional policies and procedures to department personnel through regular meetings and direct supervision of assistant managers. Interpret and implement directives from the Associate Director.
Responds and manages maintenance emergencies.
Performs additional duties as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years of related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
PREFERRED:
4 years of experience managing a mid-size, multi-facility maintenance operation, including budgeting, vendor relations, staff and inventory management.
University or Property Maintenance experience.
This position is subject to a Level 1 criminal background check.
