General Description: Assist with professional planning work in conducting research planning projects and independent studies.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an Emergency. During an Emergency employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
Assists in or prepares research relating to such items as land use, economic development, zoning ordinance revisions, transportation systems, utility systems, community facilities, demographics, and housing. Assists in duties related to preparation and presentation of data in graphic and/or written form that will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners. Prepares preliminary drafts and edits materials related to the planning field. Assists in conducting various field studies and surveys related to the county planning program and comprehensive plan. Processes re-zonings, conditional uses, special exceptions, Assists with Personal Wireless Service Facility (PWSF) applications, variances, and administrative appeals of departmental interpretations and determinations. Attends development review committee and planning commission meetings as needed. Prepares responses to public inquiries. Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of general planning principles and practices.
- Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in written, oral or graphic form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, outside agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to participate in planning studies.
- Ability to interpret applicable legislation, rules and codes.
- Familiarity with MS-office, GIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in urban planning or related field preferred.
EDUCATION,TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field.
