Job Title: Bookkeeper / Accountant

Job Overview: We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team at Synergistic Companies, a growing Property Management / Real Estate / Community Association Management firm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and assisting with day-to-day accounting operations for multiple properties and associations. This role requires a strong knowledge of accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for property management clients, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Process monthly rent collections, tenant payments, and property-related bills.
- Prepare and distribute financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports for property owners, associations, and clients.
- Manage tenant security deposits and ensure proper accounting and compliance with legal regulations.
- Prepare and submit invoices for property-related services and expenses.
- Work with property managers to prepare budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost efficiency across properties.
- Handle year-end financial reports, assist with audits, and provide necessary documentation to auditors.
- Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal tax regulations, including preparing property tax filings and ensuring tax payments are made on time.
- Manage petty cash and ensure proper allocation of expenses.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements for each property and ensure accuracy in the reporting of financial transactions.
- Communicate with clients, vendors, and internal teams regarding financial matters, invoices, and payment inquiries.
- Assist with preparing and filing monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns.
- Handle other bookkeeping and accounting tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role, preferably within property management, real estate, or community association management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Yardi, Appfolio, Buildium).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of property management-specific accounting practices (e.g., CAM charges, operating expenses, capital improvement tracking).
- Familiarity with tax filing and real estate-related tax laws.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with property managers, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other office software.
