Building Construction Inspector Salary (C-115) $37,140 – $56,703 Annually
Building Inspector Technician Salary (C-113) $33,709 – $51,515 Annually

POSITION: Building Inspector is a technical position with work responsible for enforcing building related codes, laws, and ordinances regulating building construction and related structures within the City. Work is performed in conformity with established policies and in compliance with the Florida Building Codes and other pertinent regulations, with latitude for independent judgment and decisions as to details and execution. The work in this position requires general knowledge of construction, which is applied to construction problems of a varied and complex nature. Must have ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, as well as work effectively with contractors and others in the construction trade.  All work is subject to review by the Building Official through written and verbal reports and through occasional re-inspections. Candidates who currently possess the desired valid State of FL Inspector license following F.S. 468.609 will be eligible to be hired as a Building Construction Inspector at a salary of $37,140.  Candidates with the experience required by 468.609 who can qualify for licensing will be eligible to be hired as a Building Construction Technician at a salary of $33,709.

Licensed Building Inspectors are eligible for additional compensation of: 4% for each license held which is in excess of the minimum qualifications; and, $50.00 per pay period for each plans examiner license held.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduation, or G.E.D. Certificate and (5) years of experience in the field of construction, building code inspection, or plans review, or in the field corresponding to the certification category sought as stated in Section 468.609(2) of the Florida Statute for standard certification. Position requires the ability to secure a valid provisional license as recognized by the State of Florida (61G19-6.012, Florida Administrative Code) within 6 month period with conversion to valid standard inspector license within one (1) year. Candidates must also possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE: Applicants will initially be evaluated based on a combination of their education, training, and experience. Selected candidates will also be invited to participate in a panel interview session.
