JOB SUMMARY:
The Case Manager is responsible for reviewing and analyzing claim files, interacting with and managing assigned counsel, and efficiently resolving litigated first party property claims.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and execute strategy as agreed with defense counsel and HCI practices
- Investigate, evaluate and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to ensure fair and prompt resolution of cases
- Appear as a key witness or corporate representative in depositions, mediation, hearings, and trials
- Review and analyze lawsuits and determine assignment of counsel, maintaining contact with the assigned counsel
- Verify and analyze data used in settling claims to ensure claims are valid and that settlements are made according to company practices and procedures
- Negotiate and settle mediated claims with multiple parties
- Adhere to quality standards and maintain an effective diary system
- Adjust reserves or provide reserve recommendations to ensure that reserve activities are consistent with company practices and procedures
- Supervise, monitor and direct motion practice and discovery, as related to caseload
- Draft denial letters, Reservation of Rights and other correspondence
- Manage attorney billing
- Adhere to Florida insurance rules and regulations as well as HCI’s Best Practices
- Provide oversight to designated Litigation Specialist
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Possess extensive knowledge and experience in first party property claims and litigation
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Diligent use and reliance upon a diary system for systematic tracking and processing of claims through the process
- Experience with Microsoft Office products required (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication, as well as strong negotiation skills
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree required, or a combination of equivalent experience and education
- Juris Doctorate highly preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years property claims adjusting experience, with direct experience in litigation or pre-litigation claims handling
- Functional knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices and techniques
- Functional knowledge of law and insurance regulations in the State of Florida
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- 5-20 or 6-20 Florida Adjuster’s license in good standing
