Where You Come In:

As the Chief Engineer, you will work alongside the Director of Engineering to maintain the building, grounds, and mechanical infrastructure of the hotel. This is a “working Chief” position meaning you will be expected to perform repairs and preventative maintenance tasks to keep the facility operational. In addition, the Chief Engineer will assign, monitor, and follow-up on work orders, keeping maintenance records in order and up to date, maintaining inventory, scheduling, and ensuring quality performance by the Engineering team. As a member of the Engineering team, you will also be responding to guest requests to ensure that our guests have a perfect experience every time. Your experience in hotel maintenance and engineering will allow you to easily assume the responsibility of the Director in their absence while your welcoming personality and knowledge of the trade will help as you guide the team towards success.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Hands on facility engineering duties including making repairs to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. While the extent of the work being done does not require licensure, formal training, or apprenticeship, along with skills perfected through journeyman experience is preferred.

Assist the Director of Engineering with the hiring of new employees and recommends promotions in Engineering.

Responsible for training, motivating, and supporting subordinate staff to ensure quality service.

Counsels, coaches, disciplines, and documents performance of staff. Recognizes and rewards superior performance.

Directs and supervises the staff in Engineering.

Set work schedules for staff according to skill and workload level.

Organize and participate in meetings and maintains records and data pertaining to Property Operations.

Assist with developing and monitoring engineering supplies, parts, and inventories.

Coordinate with outside contractors.

Communicate information to the Director of Engineering and act as a representative in his/her absence.

Responsible for correct use of office equipment, EMS systems and Life Safety Systems.

Respond and attend to guest repair requests as needed.

Communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues.

Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.

Record information for unfinished calls prior to shift change.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships.

Comply with quality assurance standards.

Follow company and department policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; wear nametag; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.

Follow property specific procedures for handling emergency situations (e.g., evacuations, medical emergencies, natural disasters).

Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period.

Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.

Have access to reliable transportation and follow attendance policy.

Additional Position Duties:

Respond to any reasonable task assigned by Director of Engineering.

Assist in other areas as needed.

Notify Loss Prevention/Security of any reports of theft.
