The City of Tampa Legal Department is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as the Chief Legal Advisor to the Tampa Police Department. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, drafting SOPs and other similar regulations, directives or policies of the Tampa Police Department; advising the Chief of Police, officers and administrative staff on legal issues such as search and seizure, arrests, investigations, and public records law; drafting agreements and Legal Bulletins, and conducting training. The duties also include supervising other attorneys and staff as the practice group leader for the Public Safety Practice Group in the City of Tampa Legal Department, which includes attorneys who advise the Tampa Fire Rescue Department; and coordinating with and advising the City Attorney regarding all legal issues related to the Tampa Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Florida. Experience in law enforcement/public safety legal work is required.
