ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Florida Center for Cybersecurity (Cyber Florida) is a state-funded organization dedicated to positioning Florida as a national leader in cybersecurity through education and workforce development; innovative, interdisciplinary research; and community outreach. Hosted at the University of South Florida, Cyber Florida works with all 12 State University System of Florida (SUS) institutions as well as industry, government, and defense to build partnerships and develop programs that grow and strengthen Florida’s cybersecurity industry.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications & Outreach Specialist will assist in expanding the recognition and reputation of Cyber Florida by supporting and executing external communications efforts to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences. Responsibilities include writing educational articles/blog posts and report summaries, maintaining the Cyber Florida website, developing HTML-based email campaigns, producing the monthly Cyber Florida newsletter, assisting with social media and digital advertising campaigns, and promoting Cyber Florida events and programs to a statewide and national audience.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications and Outreach, this position is responsible for providing professional assistance and support to administration in the planning, design, development, and management of various outreach/communication projects and initiatives. The incumbent will participate in strategic planning of special projects related to internal and/or external communications and/or events. Assignments are received in the form of results expected, due dates, and general procedures to follow. Duties are varied in nature, requiring independent judgment involving commonly encountered scenarios. This position performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with speakers, vendors, stakeholders, and participants throughout the project timeline, as assigned, to maintain high standards and coordination of all parties. Assists with events, including developing outreach plans for certain projects and monitoring event timelines. Maintains office inventory of event materials, promotional items, display materials, etc.
  • Develops print and online marketing content and collateral in collaboration with others. Assists with press releases, media advisories, and social media efforts.
  • Works in a web-based email platform to update and maintain mailing lists and to create and execute email campaigns.
  • Keeps the Cyber Florida website up to date and researches and writes articles and report summaries for various audiences.
  • Maintains the engagement tracker and calendar and tracks engagement numbers.
  • Assists with media relations efforts.
  • Performs other duties as required to meet the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the center.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a High School diploma and 5 years of related experience, OR a bachelor’s degree and 1 year of directly related experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

PREFERRED:

Familiar with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite applications. Experience in higher education/academic environment. Knowledge of web, social media, and email campaign best practices. Knowledge of and/or interest in cybersecurity is highly desired.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employment with the Florida Center for Cybersecurity requires you to sign a nondisclosure agreement, and complete a level II background screening and a credit check. Failure to complete the document or requirements will be taken as a refusal of any job offer.
