Position Description: Communications Coordinator
Overview:
The Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce (Seminole Chamber) is the “voice of business” for the Seminole community by:
- Creating economic development activities
- Providing resources to the 300 members through education, business assistance projects, networking, and fellowship
- Spearheading events that showcase the best of our community and our businesses and the unique features that make it such a wonderful place to live and work.
The Communications Coordinator is a full-time salaried position to perform a range of specialized and administrative duties for the office and marketing department. The position is responsible for increasing the organization’s visibility by managing the brand image, communications, and the design of marketing materials, as well as the organizations members. Eighty percent of the position will be marketing and communications, while 20% will be general office and administrative duties.
The Coordinator also serves as the initial connection to our members, prospective members, community, and visitors to our area. The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Executive Director and administrative personnel to accomplish the Chamber’s mission.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the responsibilities of the Communications Coordinator will include, but not limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Write and create content for both print and web, including the company website, blog, brochures, newsletter (print and digital), press releases, and presentations
- Assist with the planning and implementation of a communications strategy
- Create and manage the Chamber’s social media and online presence
- Assist with the planning and execution of Chamber events
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies
- Facilitate communications about Chamber issues and events with print media, especially the Seminole Beacon
- Maintain the Chamber’s internal member management system
- Send weekly email blasts through the member management system
Occasional office administration responsibilities:
- Welcome visitors, provide information to them about our businesses and community and answer incoming calls
- Process payments for Chamber events and member dues
- Assemble new member packets
- Additional office duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Journalism (or 3 plus years of experience in lieu of education)
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Acrobat DC) or equivalent programs
- A minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working in a marketing or communications position
- A minimum of 1 year clerical experience
- Possess a solid understanding of effective marketing techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working under pressure
- Self-motivated, ability to multi-task, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail, editing, and documentation skills
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs
- Ability to work occasional early mornings and evenings (per event schedules)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with volunteers
- Knowledge of database management
- Chamber of Commerce or non-profit experience
- Background of support for local businesses and/or civic organizations
- Familiarity with (and love for) the Seminole community
