Communications Director, Florida Humanities Council
The Communications Director for Florida Humanities oversees the digital and print multimedia efforts of the organization. This includes the organization’s website, social media channels, Florida Stories Walking Tour App, FORUM Magazine, and digital archive. The Communications Director works under the direction of the Executive Director and serves as the principal spokesperson for the organization’s messaging to internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Executive Director to cultivate and execute the strategic and tactical messaging of Florida Humanities
- Oversee the production of FORUM Magazine, the statewide publication of Florida Humanities, by working closely with the Editor(s)
- Oversee the production of a statewide podcast series.
- Provide regular content updates to the Florida Humanities website. Work with the Digital Media Manager to implement regular updates
- Provide directorial guidance for the production of video and audio content, in addition to deployment to appropriate platforms
- Maintain the organization’s brand consistency across platforms and with multiple stakeholders
- Serve as Staff Liaison to the Communications Committee of the Florida Humanities Board of Directors
- Represent Florida Humanities at conference and networking opportunities
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a Humanities discipline
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience within the non-profit and/or philanthropic sector
- Demonstrated experience with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, and account management platforms such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Meltwater
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals and organizations statewide
- Self-starter, self-reliant, and demonstrated ability to manage a team
- Familiarity with Florida
This full-time position requires regular statewide travel, some irregular work hours, and occasional out-of-state travel. The position reports to the Executive Director.
