Job Description:

At Regions, the Community Development Portfolio Manager (CDPM) partners closely with Community Development Lending Relationship Managers and Regions Foundation staff to execute on the Banks’ overall community investment impact strategy by working closely with Community Development Lending (CDL) credit prospects, potential and existing Foundation grantees, clients and centers of influence to develop optimal financing structures to address portfolio management needs for the Regions Community Development Corporation and Regions Foundation. This position reports to the Head of Community Development Lending and Investments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Underwrites, structures and documents prospect and client transactions
  • Documents Regions Foundation transactions
  • Manages the assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, proactively defining client solutions, identifying issues and developing remediation, underwriting debt, equity and analyzing charitable requests
  • Ensures all debt and equity metrics are within prescribed tolerances
  • Ensures that Regions Foundation process metrics are within guidelines by testing processes periodically
  • Accountable for the risk evaluation and associated compliance requirements as defined in respective roles and responsibility matrix for Anti-Money Laundering, Community Reinvestment Act/Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Regulation B and other regulatory/compliance requirements within assigned portfolio and for prospects
  • Supports the Regions Community Development Corporation and Regions Foundation with management and committee reporting
  • Creates and implements a testing process to ensure that the departments are appropriately following the approved credit and equity polices and governance framework
  • Manages the Aries Rating System relationship for Community Development Lending
  • Manages all quarterly reports for the Regions Community Development Corporation
  • Manages quarterly transaction reporting and grantee metrics reporting for the Regions Foundation
  • Ensures all credit and equity process metrics are with prescribed tolerances
  • Underwrites and executes Equity Equivalent (EQ2) investments in Community Development Financial Institutions (“CDFIs”) in accordance with the approved Investment Policy and Procedures
  • Prepares a full diligence package for investment underwriting including both qualitative and quantitative factors such as institution history, target markets, financial viability, lending productivity and loss rates
  • Coordinates with internal and external groups to ensure appropriate regulatory approvals
  • Manages the execution process including legal documentation, accounting review and funding approvals
  • Monitors the performance of each CDFI investment on an ongoing basis and prepare reports as needed

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

This is a single incumbent position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • Five (5) years experience in commercial and/or community development finance underwriting
  • Subject matter expert level understanding of accounting and finance, financial statements and cash flow analysis
  • Experience with or knowledge of community financial development institutions

Preferences

  • Completion of a major corporate credit training program (or the equivalent corporate banking finance experience)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact with senior business leaders
  • Prior experience in underwriting financial institutions

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Critical thinking skills
