Straz Center for the Performing Arts

Position Summary:  The Accessibility Coordinator serves as the Straz Center’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator that helps lead the organization in its efforts to comply with the ADA. Manages Customer Service Inquiries received via web, phone, and in person.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that the Straz is compliant with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities act, as outlined by the NEA.
  • Guides the Center in facility and program accessibility issues.
  • Ensures that accessibility issues are integrated into the Starz’s daily operations. This will include: budget, policy, education, marketing and public information.
  • Educates the Straz Center Employees and Volunteers on accessibility, diversity, and inclusion issues.
  • Designs the Straz Access Handbook, which outlines policies and procedures and updates semi-annually
  • Collaborates with the Straz Access Employee Resource Group (ERG) to develop and conduct periodic awareness seminars and training for staff, vendors and board.
  • Meets with staff on a regular basis to discuss accessibility and customer service issues. Provide leadership for staff to ensure services are appropriately provided.
  • Responsible for making sure that ADA services are provided, work with productions and guests services team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities): 

  • Self-motivated with strong administrative and organizational skills; must be able to prioritize work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities to understand the needs/nuances of various types of disabilities.
  • Demonstrated success maintaining accurate records and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Excellent telephone manner is essential.
  • Ability to work with tact and diplomacy; adept at dealing with people from different backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong competency with Microsoft suite of business applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of desktop publishing and fundraising software a plus.
  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of instructions and work within established guidelines with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to work with a schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or applicable accessibility related work required.
  • 1-2 years of commensurate experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of applicable ADA, and other state and federal laws which govern public facilities and activities;
  • Awareness of disability issues;
  • Ability to budget and manage projects within financial parameters
  • Ability to understand high level risk management concepts.
  • Ability to grasp and manage projects in line with financial aspects of the department
