ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of both common and rare skin disorders in patients of all ages, the USF Health Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery is staffed by dermatologists certified by the American Board of Dermatology. POSITION SUMMARY:

At the direction of the Chairman responsible for all administrative activities of the department in compliance with State, University, University Medical Service Association, Inc. (UMSA) rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drafts administrative policies and procedures to be followed by all components for the efficient and effective interface with all of the above organizations and within and among the various components of the Department. Compliance officer for Departmental, College, UMSA, USF Physician’s Group (USFPG) and other affiliated entities.

Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of short-range and long-term goals. Research, develop and foster Department operations in conjunction with USF Health Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) vision and Chairman’s direction and interact with various Departments within the University in this regard.

Responsible for day-to-day administrative operations of Department and all its various components involving the University, COM, UMSA, affiliated hospitals, research grants, other agencies and organizations. Handles all operational questions and problems and serves as liaison to faculty and key staff on behalf of the Chairman. Ensure Chairman apprised of all pertinent information. Assists Chairman with fundraising activities. Serves on various committees and work groups and projects at direction of Chair.

Works with Department Manager for Finance to prepare and present the departmental annual and/or revised budgets and monitors compliance of cost centers within the approved budget. Approves expenditures within the authority delegated by the Chairman. Present timely monthly consolidated reports to Chairman of Departmental financial status and faculty performance. Preparation and/or review of all contracts, grants, clinical studies and research studies to ensure financial viability and contract compliance.

Interviews, employs, evaluates performance, disciplines, and terminates all administrative personnel in the department and its various components with concurrence from Chairman. Reviews and approves all personnel action change requests, reviews and makes recommendation to the Chairman regarding the establishment and funding of all new positions.

Supervise the recruiting of Faculty and physician extenders including creating positions, verifying credentials and references, processing applications, interacting with USFPG and State HR departments. Monitors faculty performance to assignment including review of FAIR forms.

Responsible for all CME activities undertaken by the department.

Other unspecified duties as necessary to assure smooth operation of Department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position’s specific responsibilities and three years of professional business experience; OR a Master’s degree and one year of professional business experience.
  • Appropriate experience clinical operations or the department’s specialty may substitute on a year for year basis for the required degree.

PREFERRED:

  • Extensive knowledge of the operation of a clinical department specialty

SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:

  • Strong Computer Skills
