PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Directs and coordinates the accounting functions of the organization.
  • Oversees financial close of periods and preparation of financial statements, and prepares and distributes budget vs. actual performance reports to Council leadership staff.
  • Maintains control over the general ledger and accounting information systems
  • Assists with the annual budgeting process
  • Serves as lead during the annual external audit and ensures timely resolution of audit requests and findings.
  • Prepares and files annual 990 non-profit tax return and oversees other tax-related filings, such as unrelated business income tax and sales tax.
  • Supervises reconciliation of general ledger and operating accounts
  • Processes payroll.
  • Provides technical support for both internal and external users of council’s financial data.
  • Maximizes the efficient use of information and technology.
  • Assists Chief Financial Officer in maintaining internal controls to assure sound fiscal responsibility.
  • Partners with Chief Financial Officer to develop new processes and procedures for improved efficiency throughout the Council.
  • Provides direction and support services for all accounting department functions including accounts receivable and accounts payable, product sales, and retail sales.
  • Provides training in accounting systems as needed.
  • Participates in supervisory conferences and staff meetings and attends council meetings as assigned.
  • Keeps Chief Financial Officer informed on current status and progress of work assigned.
  • Performs other assignments as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 3 to 5 years accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of, and/or working experience in accounting systems, financial reporting, and auditing.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with 990 non-profit tax return preferred.
  • Proficiency with GL accounting, banking, cash management, A/R, A/P, month end journal entries and statements, payroll entries, interest, reconciliation, accruals, depreciation, prepaid, allocations, year-end processes, collections and reporting.
  • Experience with Sage 100 or similar software is preferred.
  • Willingness to take training as needed or assigned.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout movement; willing to register as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA.

  • Adheres to the Code of Ethical Conduct as delineated in the Employee Personnel Manual.
  • Promotes the concept that funding of a Girl Scout council is an integral part of the Girl Scout program and relates to others the case for support.

Salary: $66,100 to 70,000 commensurate with experience.
