Sweetwater Organic Community Farm

We are hiring one Education Apprentice to work seasonally from June through the end of April/May teaching visiting students about organic agriculture and growing organic produce. Bending, lifting, walking and carrying bins of produce are part of the daily routine. The Education Apprentice will work closely with the Education Program Manager to organize and lead field trips, attend community outreach events, designing creative educational activities, and maintaining educational “Future Farmer” garden and herb garden. The Education Apprentice will additionally work with the Farm Manager, Farm Apprentices, Volunteers, and Interns doing field work; including, seeding, planting, weeding, and harvesting.

Sweetwater recruits 3-4 Farm Apprentices/ Education Apprentices each season to dig right in and learn the basics of sustainable farming through our full-time hands-on program. Our Apprentices live on farm property in our Apprentice house (which also serves as our Education Center) and receive a stipend of $100 a week. Each Apprentice will have their own private sleeping area, and will share a common area that includes a full kitchen, bathroom with shower, and living area with an enclosed porch. The house has Wi-Fi for internet access. Apprentices work 40-45 hours for 5 days of the week (including weekends). Apprenticeships are considered complete at the end of the Season and Apprentices will be required to vacate the Apprentice house at that time.
