• A senior executive assistant provides a wide range of support services for a high-level corporate manager as well as for other top-level executives. The responsibilities of this role extend beyond that of an executive assistant or secretary, and encompasses organizational and administrative functions. A senior executive will be expected to handle and anticipate all things pertaining to the CEO. It is vital that exceptional attention to detail is maintained at all times. Computer literacy is a must. They will be expected to be available after hours and on the weekend. Due to their status, their salaries can be elevated, especially if they have specialized industry experience. Some of the duties expected are listed below.
  • Schedule management. A senior executive assistant coordinates the schedule of his boss, ensuring that meetings, deadlines, presentations and other duties are carried out seamlessly. He often makes travel arrangements for his boss, coordinating flights, accommodations and other itinerary specifics. He is also available to travel with his boss.
  • Records and reports. Typically, various office reports are generated by the senior executive assistant — who may create spreadsheets and charts, maintain databases and write departmental status reports. He will be expected to handle contracts, and documents for multiple business.
  • Staff cooperation Typically, a senior executive assistant must cooperate with junior-level staff. He will be expected to coordinate all communication to his boss and to the pertinent other members of the staff. Effective communication skills are essential.
  • Gatekeeping. Gatekeeping is a significant responsibility of a senior executive assistant, as he positions himself between the public, clients and customers, staff members and his boss. In this capacity, the executive assistant fields phone calls, takes requests for meetings and coordinates various aspects of interdepartmental communication as necessary. People skills are a must in order to protect the boss and keep great relationships in tact with all other parties.
