The role of the Executive Director of the St Petersburg Museum of History is to lead fundraising and marketing efforts for the Museum, as well as manage the day to day operations of the Museum and its staff. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Museum.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to make a substantial positive impact on the Museum and play a key role in its transformation into a leading member of St. Petersburg’s  cultural  community.  As  with  most  non-profit   institutions,  recent economic conditions have challenged the financial and operational capacity of the Museum.  However,  over  the  past  several  years,  the  Museum  formed  a  strong foundation for future growth by:

  • Paying off all debt.
  • Creating a reserve fund and making contributions each fiscal year.
  • Generating positive cash flow for each of the past several years.
  • Undertaking a visioning process, called Vision 2020, in which the Museum and its constituents (board members, members, donors, educators, local government) adopted a new vision statement and series of strategic goals.
  • Beginning the process to launch two new world class exhibits by 2014, one focused on Baseball and the other focused on St. Petersburg as the home of the first commercial airline flight.

The vision statement of Museum is as follows:

“The Museum will provide an enriching and engaging experience that uses Tampa Bay’s unique history to highlight relevant issues of today. As a must-see destination for tourists and a favorite among local residents and families, it will be where people come to experience the best of St. Petersburg.”

We are looking for a charismatic leader with the following strengths and experience:

  • Demonstrated management and operational experience.
  • Previous experience in reporting to a Board of Directors in a not-for-profit or for-profit environment.
  • Established  network  of  community  stakeholders  or  can  quickly  develop  such relationships.
  • Track record of accomplishments in fundraising, marketing, and project management.
  • Interest and respect for the history and culture of St Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in recruiting and motivating volunteers.
  • Willingness to make at least a two year commitment to this position on a full time (flexible hours) position.
