ABOUT THE MUSEUM

The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is a new institution that opened on April 7, 2018. The 87,000 SF facility houses the significant collection of western and wildlife art collected by Tom and Mary James over the past 35 years. The facility includes 30,000 SF of gallery space, a 4,000 SF special exhibitions gallery, a 141-seat auditorium, a 6,000 SF special events rental space, a double height lobby with water feature, store, café, education classrooms, over 200 covered parking spaces, on-site collection storage, administrative offices, and back of house service facilities. Programming includes special exhibitions in a variety of genres including artist talks and demonstrations, art classes, lectures, performances, docent-led tours, and a variety of activities for children and families.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Operations and the Chief Engineer, the Facilities Technician ensures: the effective and safe operation and maintenance of the Museum and leasehold facilities, grounds, and two levels of structured parking as well as protecting the safety and well-being of visitors, staff, volunteers, leasehold tenants, physical building and the Museum collection.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a hands-on position. Work with tools on various equipment throughout our facility.

Performs the maintenance of the physical plant operations of the museum, ensuring that maintenance, security, and housekeeping activities (only public/shared portions of leasehold areas: restrooms, corridors, HVAC spaces, elevators, etc.) are efficiently completed as scheduled on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis as applicable

Performs all work required for property improvements, repairs, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

Provide timely and accurate information to management related to unusual conditions or situations affecting Museum security, visitor/staff safety, and the functioning of the facility

Ensures Museum staff is aware of the appropriate procedures in the event of an emergency situation including those requiring the evacuation of the Museum. Will coordinate practice drills as needed

Assists with the delivery and installation of furnishings to all Museum offices and public areas, with assistance from furnishing vendors/suppliers

Knowledge of basic concepts, practices and procedures associated with electrical and mechanical systems and equipment including, but not limited to, alarm systems, lighting, distribution systems, and uninterruptible power systems

Assists with exhibition installations as required; receive training and comply with Museum art handling practices

Understands the mission and goals of the Museum, maintenance procedures for the building, correct security procedures, the need for building cleanliness, appropriate care for the collection, and projects a courteous attitude toward guests and fellow staff

Ensures high standards of professionalism in all areas of responsibility

Performs other duties, tasks and projects as required

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience in facilities maintenance is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

A working familiarity with building and equipment maintenance, construction, housekeeping, and security procedures, is also preferred.

Common sense skills are expected.

Excellent computer skills are required in order to become proficient (with training to be provided) with the operation of the Building Management System (BMS) that will control and monitor the building’s environmental systems

A working familiarity and experience working with telecommunications, HVAC, security, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems is also preferred (Training for and familiarization with the particular systems installed in the building, as needed, will be provided.)

Able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and use all limbs simultaneously

Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as experience working in a team

Must be a Team player

EDUCATION CERTIFICATION AND training

HS diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license

Cell phone required

Any professional certificates or licenses preferred, but not required

HVAC Universal certification or will acquire within one year.

SCHEDULE/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Museum is open 7 days each week and the Facilities Technician will be scheduled to work flexible schedules depending upon the needs of the museum

Indoor/Outdoor work environment

Working in the area of building maintenance, security and housekeeping

Non-standard hours occasionally to accommodate special events

Must be reachable at all times

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background and reference check

Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a 90 day probationary period
