Zillow is seeking a General Manager who will be the head of field operations for all in-market buying, selling and renovating homes. This role includes building a team to provide an excellent customer experience for our homebuyers and sellers in our industry-disruptive business. Zillow is seeking a General Manager who will be the head of field operations for all in-market buying, selling and renovating homes. This role includes building a team to provide an excellent customer experience for our homebuyers and sellers in our industry-disruptive business. You will launch the market by leading the field operations team and interact with market analysts and customer service agents, while coordinating with centralized teams (underwriting, transactions, renovations, etc.) to optimize market performance.

You will:

  • Be a strategic and tactical leader of field operations to build and grow the local market.
  • Own overall market performance and P&L responsibilities with key performance indicators of property level margin, renovation turn times, actuals vs. underwriting for purchase sale price and renovation costs and timelines
  • Implement operational processes at scale across the fastest-growing teams at Zillow
  • Diagnose and manage any complications that occur within buying, renovating and selling single family homes
  • Manage multiple levels of direct reports, work closely with, and influence centralized support teams. Build a proficient team through both individually coaching your leaders and partner with Learning and Development to execute training programs
  • Set and evaluate home & market buy box, ongoing market condition monitoring, feedback valuation, home condition coordination with central office and home make-ready management (scopes of work, bids, setting appropriate spec levels, conditions, timelines and vendors)
  • Collaborate with local sales team and central asset management to minimize days on market
  • Handle home listing and sale management, local RE agent coordination and overall return on investment of homes
  • Interact effectively with multiple stakeholders internally and externally (media, real estate agents, general contractors, senior leadership etc). Be the brand ambassador of Zillows culture to both your team and the business networks in your local market
  • Provide coaching and development to the Team; build the ZO culture and work environment to sustain growth through our values and leadership principles
  • Deliver training as necessary to open new markets, launch new initiatives and or address market opportunities
  • Maintain a presence in the field through coaching and observation visits with the Team
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Who you are

  • Investment acumen You have knowledge of key drivers of profitability when flipping homes
  • Local Market Knowledge You know the intricacies of the market- where to buy, where not to buy, seasonality, and general market nuances including brokerage environment
  • General knowledge of renovating a home and pitfalls to avoid
  • Excellent organizational and impeccable communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to influence in a highly cross-functional environment
  • Exhibit the core tenets of being an effective leader!
  • Real Estate license preferred
  • Experience managing and motivating your direct reports and field teams
  • Experience in real estate, construction, renovation or asset management preferred
  • Comfortable with adopting new technology
  • Able to pass a pre-hire drug test and remain in compliance with our substance abuse rules and testing requirements.
