Grant Writer I Salary: $48,000

We are seeking a mission driven, organized, detail-oriented Grant Writer to secure funding for the agency’s programs and services by writing and submitting grant proposals for federal, state, and local governments as well as foundation funding opportunities. The Grant Writer I will write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals to help DFL reach its revenue goals. The position will also conduct prospect research in order to generate additional grant opportunities for DFL. This position will collaborate with team members throughout the organization and develop relationships with key stakeholders. The Grant Writer I is a deadline-driven team player demonstrating flexibility and outstanding multitasking abilities. This position has access to highly protected, proprietary information which must be protected with strict confidentiality, and the Grant Writer I must sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire. All writing, program concepts, and work product created by the Grant Writer I in position are owned by DFL, will remain with DFL and are not the property of the writer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gathering proposal information by identifying internal and external sources of information and coordinating requirements with contributors
  • Preparing and developing grant proposals by gathering and formatting relevant information, writing drafts, and obtaining approval from key providers and leadership. This includes developing project narratives, objectives, outcomes and deliverables, implementation, timetables, staffing, budget, and evaluation
  • Editing proposal drafts, checking final proposal for accuracy, and ensuring proposals are successfully submitted by the deadline
  • Maintaining quality results by using templates, following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone
  • Maintaining proposal records/electronic files in grant data store
  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of Directions for Living’s history and programs
  • Monitoring results of proposal and communicating results to supervisor
  • Completing Letters of Support and support documents for partner organizations
  • Researching new funding opportunities (grants, RFPs, ITNs)
  • Assisting with the assessment of fit and viability for Directions for Living of any new funding opportunity

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Research, coordinate, and write new business proposals to corporate, foundation, and/or government funders; at least TWO PER MONTH. Maintain productivity of proposal submissions.
  • Review and update current or renewable grants/contracts to maintain compliance and ensure continued funding, with guidance of Grant Writer II and Donor Relations Manager.
  • Work with the Marketing and Business Development team to meet agency revenue goals through grants and contracts.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Sales, Public Relations or English, or other closely related field, with a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience. Must be a methodical thinker and have excellent communication, writing, organizational, and computer skills with the ability to multi-task, meet crucial deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively with the team. Must have the ability to be flexible and adapt to change management.
