Systems Engineer
The Systems Engineer provides in-person (field) technical support to our small- to medium-sized businesses. The Systems Engineer deals directly with customers on technical issues that have been escalated from our telephone help desk team as well as pre-Scheduled Service calls. The Systems Engineer is typically in the field every day. A company vehicle is provided if you can be put on our insurance. If not, reliable transportation is a must. You will be working mostly with end-users in the field, with companies that do not have their own internal IT support – we offer that support for them.
Responsibilities:
Respond directly to customer technical inquiries and assist through the break/fix onsite.
Diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues, research questions using available information resources, advise the customer on appropriate action, take ownership of the issue and see it through to a successful resolution.
Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention; redirect problems when necessary to appropriate resources, and coordinate scheduling and hand-off.
Desired Skills & Experience
A minimum of 5 years IT Field Experience is required.
Must have working knowledge with all types of Hardware, including but not limited to, Servers, Workstations, routers, switches, etc.
Must have working knowledge of Windows 2000 Operating systems to Windows 7 for Workstations
Must have working knowledge of Windows 2000 Server Operating Systems to Windows 2008 and Windows Server 2012
Hyper-V, VM Ware, 2x, SQL and Exchange Knowledge a plus but not required.
Troubleshooting active directory, including OU design and administration, GPOs and site to site replication.
Windows Exchange experience is highly preferred. But not required.
Basics of routing and switching and firewalls.
Remote monitoring and management and virus and malware removal.
Basic knowledge of WAN & LAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP and general networking.
A solid understanding of VLAN’s and VPN’s.
Must have a basic knowledge of current and emerging storage architectures (FC, iSCSI, SAN, NAS).
Experience with build-out and provisioning of physical servers (HP, Dell, IBM) to desktops is highly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and ability to foster and manage relationships across internal staff and external customers.
Excellent communication skills delivered through effective oral and written communication, including technical documentation.
Must possess the skills required to diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues, research questions using available information resources, advise user on appropriate action, follow standard help desk procedures, take ownership of the issue and see it through to a resolution.
Due to the nature of the work performed, will require some after-hours and weekend work.
