Cortland Partners

Role Overview

The role of a Leasing Consultant is 1/3 salesperson, 1/3 advisor, 1/3 administrator. You have to sell your community, but you have to do it by listening and adapting to the needs of your customers. You’re the community’s cheerleader, leasing rock star, and customer service champion!

Responsibilities

What You Should Know in Advance

The work is fast-paced with lots of unplanned interruptions.
You will work weekends.
You will interact with people from all stages and walks of life.
If you don’t feel 100%, no one should be able to tell!
Thick-skinned doesn’t even begin to cover it; brush it off and keep on truckin’!
The Real Work

Walking in your customers’ shoes
Listening and showing empathy – sometimes your residents just need to talk to someone
Researching your competition
Selling and touring your community
Reporting, answering phones, managing files, entering data
Focusing on the needs of others
Building rewarding relationships with new people
Defusing challenging situations and working with unhappy people
Figuring out how to get others to share what they really need/want
Adapting to continual change – no two days are the same
Communicating clearly and accurately with customers, residents, and all levels of Cortland associates
Brainstorming ideas to drive sales and occupancy

A Day in the Life

In the words of a Cortland Partners associate, here’s a snapshot of a day in the life of a Leasing Consultant:

“ Here’s a long, run-on sentence to reflect a long, run-on (but exciting!) day: Walk in the door, clock in, get the carts, open models, get the clubhouse ready, put beverages out, get ready for touring, open up your software programs, print availability, if you have vacant units walk them, check appointments and move ins, get lease files ready, check messages, check lead center, make sure all is followed up on, post to website, follow up on renewals (repeat!), send out renewal offers, answer phones, take tours (repeat!), address resident concerns (repeat!), enter service requests in software, daily huddle with team, greet the guests coming in all day, make sure leasing material available – it’s 5 pm – did I eat lunch?”
