LEGAL STAFF ASSISTANT
OFFICE OF THE CITY ATTORNEY
SALARY RANGE (SB-1) $31,388 – $48,259 ANNUALLY

POSITION: Legal secretarial work of more than ordinary difficulty and
responsibility in the Office of the City Attorney.  Employee performs a
variety of complex clerical, staff assistant, legal secretarial and public
contact work.  Duties may include: setting, canceling and coordinating
hearings, trials, depositions, mediations and arbitrations; filing
pleadings; obtaining copies of court documents and recorded documents;
setting witness interviews; preparing simple pleadings, notices and
subpoenas; compiling and editing reports, resolutions, ordinances, drafts,
legal briefs, contracts, and other legal documents; maintaining electronic
calendar for assigned attorneys; explaining standard programs and policies;
and assisting in maintaining the Law Library for legal staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate, Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D.
supplemented by one (1) year of vocational courses in typing and business
practices.  Two (2) years experience in performing legal or related work.
Considerable knowledge of legal office practices, legal terminology, and
computer software programs such as Word and Excel required.  Selected
candidate must also have the ability to understand and follow complex oral
and written instructions; and express ideas clearly and concisely, orally,
and in writing. Knowledge of Client Profiles or Aderant Total Office is
preferred.
