This is important technical, full-time paraprofessional work assisting in various phases of municipal library operations. An employee in this class is able to provide excellent internal and external customer service. Work involves extensive contact with the community including, but not limited to, registering patrons, troubleshooting account issues, collecting fees, advising patrons on regulations and procedures of the library system, assisting patrons in locating materials and planning and presenting programs for all ages. Employees also plan, organize and participate in the circulation and circulation control services of the Main or smaller community library, including charging and discharging of collection materials and may assist in cataloging materials as well. Employees search for and recommend materials and resources to patrons; maintain registration files and prepare daily and monthly reports reflecting library activities. Employees also answer basic computing, informational and directional questions and refer advanced research questions to a librarian. Lead supervisory responsibility over other library employees occurs as assigned. This position is responsible for supervisory duties in the absence of a library coordinator and requires flexible working hours that include mornings, evenings and weekends. An employee in this class is expected to perform independently following a reasonable amount of training and orientation.
Salary: $15.01 – $23.00 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have some previous experience working with the public.
  • Have at least two years of experience working in various phases of a modern library system.
  • Be skilled in computer use.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
  • Have library experience.
  • Are skilled in technology, including computers, integrated library systems, databases, and cash register use.
  • Have some knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, library methods, materials, practices and available reference sources.
  • Have at least two years of supervisory experience.
