ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Technology Transfer Office (TTO), under USF Research & Innovation, USF System, is responsible for the identification, evaluation, development, protection, and utilization of intellectual property rights that result from USF System research activities and from the activities of USF System researchers in affiliated hospitals and other off-site facilities. TTO has 18 full-time employees and 8-10 graduate student interns and undergraduate student assistants. Clients are mainly USF faculty, staff and student researchers and innovators, but also include venture and technology companies desiring to license USF inventions and technologies.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensing Associate aides in case management by identifying, evaluating and licensing inventions made by researchers at the institution. This position identifies technologies with commercial applications; evaluates the commercial potential of inventions; identifies potential licensees; prepares non-confidential, technical information for marketing purposes; develops and implements specific marketing strategies for each technology. This position works under the general supervision of licensing managers. Licensing Associates execute marketing strategies in the fields of life sciences, physical sciences and engineering, and/or computer science, including software and copyrightable digital information.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with the Graduate Student Intern Program to develop marketing materials related to USF technologies. Reviews, updates and approves technology flyers and other promotional materials for posting to website and other media outlets for maximum exposure. Collaborates with faculty and staff to identify appropriate targets for marketing campaigns, and advises on approaches and procedures regarding their technologies.
Serves as the first point of contact for incoming interested parties in USF technologies. Responds to any initial questions; provides non-confidential information related to the technology and requested non-disclosure agreements when necessary; and arranges follow-up meetings with the assigned manager for potential negotiation.
Assists Licensing Managers/Sr. Licensing Mangers in developing and revising marketing plans and identifying licensing opportunities in order to derive maximum revenue potential for university intellectual property licenses. Responsible for direct marketing of USF technologies to potential partners.
Assists licensing managers with training, technology evaluation and patent prosecution. Negotiates licensing terms with start-ups and existing companies.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and two years of experience in market research, technical analysis, business development/planning or technology commercialization. A Master’s degree or higher may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement for this position.
Preferred:
A Master degree or higher in the STEM field and two years of professional technology commercialization experience.
