Job Summary

The Recreational Center Director works to identify and implement long-term strategic goals that will drive increased membership and achieve the financial growth necessary to assist in the facilities becoming self-sufficient. The Recreational Center Director will coordinate and manage all related functions for the Association including planning, organizing and managing the employees and coaches within the Recreational Center facility. The Recreational Center Director will develop and implement specific athletic programs; direct and coordinate a full range of athletic department services and programs and ensure compliance with any state and safety regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Increase membership by creating programs that appeal to all age groups within the association.
  • Solicit and secure sponsorship’s and support funding from local businesses and organizations.
  • Develop and manage annual Recreational Center budget and review and control associated expenditures.
  • Provide leadership for fund raising activities.
  • Attend all athletic events and act as event administrator or delegate same to designated staff.
  • Serve as liaison to community regarding Recreational Center functions.
  • Ensure all team members represent the association in the best light.
  • Provide athlete and coach orientation, conditioning and training programs.
  • Supervise/coordinate utilization of all athletic facilities.
  • Recommend and review policies for association, community and league use of facilities.
  • Review and recommend changes, repair and improvement of pools, athletic equipment and facilities.
  • Arrange for athletic events (game management).

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a master athletic events calendar.
  • Assist in the design and development of the athletic events website and Poinciana Pioneer newsletter.
  • Assist with hiring staff and coaches by forwarding recommendations to management.
  • Approve payroll and timesheets for all Recreational Center staff.
  • Perform such additional duties and responsibilities as may be required by the department, company or the Poinciana community.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly or indirectly supervise associates within the assigned property.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Athletics, Physical Education or a closely related field. Experience and knowledge of: current practices in the delivery of athletic programs, supervision techniques, administrative budgeting and financial recordkeeping and control procedures. Must have the ability to: integrate multiple activities and programs around the goals of the athletic programs; develop and provide athletic services to meet the needs of a wide variety of residents and supervise those activities.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Ability to work within established APV Personnel Policies, Procedures and Agreements
  • Skills to effectively prioritize and execute assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and building a team environment.
  • Build trusting relationships by acting with integrity, courtesy and responsibility.
  • Maintain proficiency as needed by attending trainings as needed.
  • Dress appropriately for a workplace with frequent resident interaction and community outreach.
  • Meet all required standards of safety and maintain areas in clean and orderly manner.
  • Ability to accurately forecast required resources and personnel to complete all assigned projects on time and within budget.
  • React to workload and project adjustments/alterations proactively and effectively.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Provide and communicate on a regular basis the following information for all Recreation Center activities (status, issues, concerns, timing, budgets and manpower)

Tools & Equipment Used

Computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment to include, but not be limited to, phone, fax machine, copier, etc.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Physical demands may include ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, sitting, walking and climbing maybe required
  • The employee may be required to work at a computer and speak on the phone for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work extended/flexible hours and weekends and be on call as needed
  • Must poses a valid Florida drivers license
