Everglades Housing Group (EHG), a highly reputable non-profit manager of affordable housing communities, is seeking a part-time (up to 29 hours per week) Maintenance Technician for our three properties co-located in Ruskin. As our organization only manages properties we own, we are looking for a dedicated candidate who takes pride in the work they perform. EHG’s mission is to make a difference in their tenant’s lives (not just collect rents). We prefer a candidate who has current or previous experience as a maintenance staff member at a multi-family property.

Everglades Housing Group is a growing organization as we have a portfolio of affordable multi-family housing from the Florida Keys to Gainesville. We are looking for a detailed and experienced Maintenance Technician to undertake the responsibility to preserve the good condition and functionality of premises. You will perform maintenance tasks of great variety such as painting, HVAC repairs, plumbing, etc. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and responsibly by observing all health and safety guidelines. The goal is to maintain the buildings and common areas in the best possible condition.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing all vacancies to a market-ready condition.
  • Perform minor maintenance of electrical systems
  • Receive emergency and routine work orders from property manager and perform necessary work to close out work orders
  • Maintain HVAC and plumbing systems to ensure functionality
  • Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed
  • Perform manual repairs when necessary (fix locks, replace windows etc.)
  • Performs various maintenance functions and records findings in work orders. These functions may include, but are not limited to light bulb changes, caulking, filter changes, painting, lock repairs, install/repair window coverings, minor HVAC maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.
  • Maintains open communication with the property managers and other maintenance staff member.
  • Responds to resident service requests and concerns in timely manner.
  • Performs on-call emergency service as required.
  • Assists in monitoring and/or controlling maintenance inventory and/or supplies.
  • Keeps the grounds and common areas free of trash and debris.
  • Represents the organization in professional manner at all times, on or off the property.
  • Attends and assists in setting up for resident functions and activities.
  • Drives motorized vehicle on the property for company business.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Skills/Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred
  • Team player/positive attitude is a must
  • Must be able to work independently and pay close attention to detail.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, crawl, lift heavy items, etc.
  • Proven experience as maintenance technician
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other systems
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
  • Good physical condition and strength with a willingness to work overtime
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Certificate in HVAC is a plus
  • You must be able to pass a drug screening

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • On Call
