ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Facilities Management Division implements USF System’s programs through the development of policies and procedures in coordination with USF System institutions (USF Tampa, USF Health, USF St. Petersburg, and USF Sarasota-Manatee) as well as through strategic initiatives designed to realize the goals and objectives of each institution. Six Departments make up Facilities Management. Planning & Space Management, Environmental Health & Safety, and Emergency Management have system-wide responsibility. Design & Construction, Operations and Maintenance & Plant Operations, and Building & Campus Services, have local responsibilities on the USF Tampa and USF Health campuses.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the general repair and maintenance of USF buildings, structures and equipment. Maintenance Technicians perform highly diversified preventative and repair maintenance to keep all buildings and equipment in good operating condition. A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position. Mechanics should be trained or qualified in one or more relevant trades or skilled craft areas. Maintenance Technicians are essential position and during emergency situations, including those that dictate suspension of campus activities and services and/or closure of campus operations, must remain at, or report to their campus as soon as reasonably possible. This position is part of a voluntary On-Call rotation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs general maintenance repairs when necessary such as automatic and manual door repair, flooring repairs, painting, drywall repair, woodwork, baseboard and trim repair.
Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not limited to replacement or repair of fixtures, bulbs and ballasts.
Performs minor plumbing maintenance to include but not limited to repairing leaks in drains, faucets, unclogging drains.
Inspects buildings and other structures for needed repairs making notes and recommendations
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires completion of an approved apprenticeship program for one or more trades; or a high school diploma and four years of related experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. A valid Florida Driver’s License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.
PREFERRED:
High School diploma and four years of commercial maintenance experience; Knowledge of basic repair procedures, for door closures, hardware, carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. Certification of a skilled craft. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills. Candidate should possess a strong commitment to work in a team environment with ability to contribute expertise and follow leadership directives at the appropriate times.
