Full Job Description

This is unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work at the City’s Airport (Albert Whitted), Port, and Marina. The schedule will be as follows: three (3) days per week at the Airport, one (1) day per week at the Port, and one (1) day per week at the Marina. Duties at the Airport include mowing, weed eating, and other like tasks or property grounds including working on the active portions of the airfield (i.e., near active runways/taxiways). Additionally, work at the Airport will include assisting senior maintenance staff with more complex tasks involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other like trades. The duties at the Port will be largely centered on grounds keeping, facility cleaning, and light custodial tasks. Due to maritime security requirements, candidates will be required to pass an additional security check and obtain a TWIC Card. Duties at the Marina will largely be centered on grounds keeping, facility cleaning and other light maintenance duties. This position requires a flexible schedule as work may be carried on during the day but at times may include nights, weekends, and holidays, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions. Work includes driving a motorized vehicle and using standard hand tools and power equipment.
Salary:$15.00 – $18.58 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card – or – must be able to obtain the card within 30 days of appointment to the position.
  • Be able to plan and organize routine work details.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • For safety reasons, must be able to swim, float and tread water.
  • Be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.


Desirable Qualifications.
Preferred applicants:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Have considerable experience performing building and property maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Have some knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
  • Have experience operating small turf maintenance equipment.
  • Have experience performing maintenance duties in an Airport, Port, and/or Marina.


RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.Selection Process
