This is unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work performing landscaping and maintenance of city-owned property and a variety of medians and rights of way including in or near waterways, ditches, and lakes. Work involves the maintenance of grounds and turf through mowing and edging; trimming and pruning of plants, trees and shrubs; and the pickup of litter. Work also involves assisting with landscaping projects, including the planting, removing and care of various turfs, ground covers, plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. Work includes the operation of light-duty automotive equipment; using power tools, specialized machines, and small turf equipment, such as chain saws, trimmers and mowers, to maintain grounds; and other related work. An employee in this class performs heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.

 

Salary: $14.25 – $17.67 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have at least six (6) months of grounds maintenance or landscaping experience.
  • Be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Desirable Qualifications: Preferred applicants:
  • Are experienced in the operation of small turf maintenance equipment.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
