This is unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work serving the City’s Neighborhood Team (N-Team) in providing community improvements and assisting qualified homeowners with various home repairs addressing City Code violations, including, but not limited to, disabled accessibility improvements, carpentry, painting, plumbing, roof patching, masonry work, debris removal and yard maintenance. Work involves using the required standard hand/power tools, small turf/landscaping equipment, various construction equipment to perform tasks of a manual nature and other related work. Work is performed under close supervision and in accordance with specific instructions, including defined procedures and schedules. An employee in this class must be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions and perform required work above ground level using extension ladders up to 32’. Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must: · Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.· Be able to, daily, perform heavy manual labor including frequently lifting and handling materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:· Possess a valid Driver License.· Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.· Have completed OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training.· Have carpentry, construction, or handyman experience.· Have attended, or preferably completed, a job training program related to construction, such as Job Corps, Youth Build, or a Pinellas Technical College program.· Have skill in the operation of various hand and power tools.· Have experience in the operation of small turf maintenance and landscape equipment.· Able to perform required work using extension ladders and/or construction staging.· Able to perform required work on roofs. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTThe successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997. | ||
