Media Coordinator

Purpose of the Position

The Media Coordinator is the communications specialist for the church who develops and implements targeted communications for a variety of media platforms. They research, write, proofread and edit all content, and plan and execute all media and advertising campaigns and provides general support for the church office and Co-Pastors. This position reports to the Co-Pastors.

Essential Job Functions:

Creation of documents, presentations and visual images.

General Congregation Communication – Compile & print weekly newsletters, mailings, emails, postcards, brochures, special event materials, press releases, announcements and special reports.

Prepare the sanctuary screen presentations for use in worship such as worship videos, announcement slides, song verses, etc.

Prepare and print support materials – worship leader bulletins, participant bulletins and announcement inserts.

Manage social media presence by updating church website, Facebook Page, and other social media as needed on a daily basis.

Work with Pastors and Communications Team to develop strategy for media presence

Work with Communications Team to update and maintain Webpage and Facebook Fan Page.

Post special announcements.

Update and manage congregational Google Event Calendar.

Invite friends of the congregation to events.

Solicit and post volunteers for Ministry Scheduler Pro for worship assistants

Maintain and update parish information including parish register, membership directory, and Shepherd Staff membership database.

General clerical tasks including but not limited to:

Answer telephone and email; meet, greet and direct visitors as needed

Recruit, schedule and supervise office volunteers to answer phones, provide light clerical support, and extend office hours or work on special projects

Keep updated congregation-wide volunteer database and share with respective leaders and committees.

Solicit and input member data and interests when new families join the congregation.

Assist when volunteers are needed for special events, including reaching out to congregation members via social media, phone and/or email.

Provide encouragement and acts of appreciation for volunteers periodically.

Organize the church office and maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Monitor and order office supplies

Place vendor orders as requested by Pastors, Staff, Council and/or Ministry Team leaders.

Evaluate office systems and software and suggests changes for improved productivity.

Operate office equipment, e.g. computer, copier, printer, folding machine, etc. and arrange maintenance and repairs as needed.

Attend weekly staff meetings.

Perform other tasks as assigned by the Co-Pastors, in support of other ministry leaders.

Skills and Qualifications

Act at all times in a professional, respectful, helpful and courteous manner.

Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.

Demonstrated skill in using desktop publishing and word processing. Experience with Microsoft Word, Publisher and Powerpoint is required, and Microsoft Excel a plus

Experience with, and enthusiasm for, social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Have an artistic eye for presentation in multiple media

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional and effective manner.

Detail-oriented and ability to multitask

Basic knowledge of how the parish operates and ability to grasp quickly how the parish office functions.

Ability to prioritize work and work independently.

Visibly demonstrate a lifestyle and approach that is consistent with Christian discipleship.

Compensation and Benefits

This three quarter time, non-exempt coordinator position entails 30 hours per week.

Compensation is reviewed annually by the Church Council during the budgeting process.

PTO is accrued and may be used as described in the Employee Manual.

Employee is eligible to request PTO after six months of service, as described in the Employee Manual.

Evaluation period will initially be in six months and then to be conducted annually. The Co-Pastors will provide an annual review each fall for the purposes of discussing the working relationship and any needed changes in performance or expectations.
