Twistee Treat, an Orlando-based retro-themed ice cream shop, is opening a location at the corner of Bruce B. Downs and New Tampa boulevards this month.
The shop offers 1940s and ’50s-style decor and serves soft-serve ice cream cones. It has already been greeted with enthusiasm from about 400 applicants looking to work there, according to Corey Balzer, the president of Twistee Treat USA. The construction of an ice cream-shaped building that rises 28 feet high has also drawn interested stares from passing motorists, the Tampa Tribune said.
Twistee Treat plans to hire 25 people in the new location, which will be the fifth one owned by Balzer in the region. Balzer told the Tribune he and his business partners plan to build two more Twistee Treat shops by the end of 2013 in Hillsborough County — one on Fletcher Avenue and the other on Sheldon Road.
