North American Roofing is the third largest commercial roofing contractor in the United States. We are searching for a Cost Accountant in the Tampa Bay area.
Purpose of the Job:
The role entails developing and implementing cost accounting standards based on a thorough understanding of cost drivers such as internal labor, sub-contracted labor, materials, freight, and rentals. The person in this role will be responsible for the cost related functions as well as analysis and reporting. The right candidate will possess a commitment to timeliness, accuracy, teamwork and accountability, and will possess the ability to effectively interact with numerous disciplines, customers, vendors and executive leadership.
Job Duties:
- Participate in the development and refinement of internal controls over job costing for construction projects to identify processes and procedures to improve cost controls.
- Partner with the estimating and project management team to ensure timely and accurate budget vs. actual reporting.
- Identify trends in variance between estimate vs. actual performance to identify gaps in the estimating process or opportunities to improve project management performance.
- Analyze job costing data to provide feedback on estimating and production efficiency.
- Present data and analysis to North American Roofing executive leadership
- Provide analytical support to project management teams to ensure projects are on budget, ensuring change orders are processed in accordance with contract terms and/or detailed variances identified for discrepancies to budget.
- Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely posting and classification of detailed transactions for various projects within job costing for percentage completion accounting in accordance with GAAP for proper matching of revenues and costs.
- Review cost reports and post corrections as needed during monthly closing working closely with construction project management team.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly work in process schedules and reporting of job financials.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, required
- 5 years of accrual-based accounting experience.
- 3+ years of cost accounting experience, preferred.
- Accounting experience in the roofing or construction industry, preferred
- Advanced MS Excel experience required
- Excellent Analytical skills and demonstrable strategic thinking ability
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
