Are you interested in helping your fellow citizens during a natural disaster or emergency? The Department of Homeland Security is looking for individuals with engineering, construction management, disaster recovery, insurance and project management skills to serve on an ‘on call’ basis for a minimum of two weeks as Reservists for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As a FEMA Reservist, you will serve the nation by helping citizens and first responders during disasters or emergencies. You would be appointed for a two year period. Although you would not be guaranteed employment or renewal of employment, the benefits of becoming a Reservist for FEMA include: Training Gain experience, Become qualified in a specific disaster role, and Assist in the coordinated response and recovery efforts of impacted citizens, communities, Local, Tribal, and State governments.
Responsible for: Inspect bridges, dams, highways, buildings, wiring, plumbing, electrical circuits, sewers, heating systems, or foundations during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, or conformance to specifications and codes.Review and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, or construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
What is the role of a reservist? Reservists are intermittent employees, appointed for a two-year period. They are not guaranteed employment or renewal of employment, and are not paid except during training and once (and if) they are called up.Work opportunities are intermittent due to the irregular nature of disasters.Staff Joint Field Offices (JFOs) and Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs),Interview disaster survivors,Assess and confirm damage,Provide administrative, financial, and logistical support, andPerform a wide variety of other tasks based on emergency needs.
Qualifications for a Reserve role with FEMA include: US citizenMust be 18 or olderPass a background investigationBe approved for a government issued travel cardBe able to leave home on short noticeBe aware from home for 30 days or more andBe able to travel to any state or U.S. territoryThis project is being managed by the Talent Acquisition team of Kelly Outsourcing & Consulting Group (Kelly OCG) as a vendor to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). People will be hired for these Intermittent roles directly by FEMA.
