Position Summary:
The position of Courtesy Officer is a part-time position that reports directly to the General Manager.
The Courtesy Officer helps maintain a comfortable, safe and quiet atmosphere for our guests. This employee patrols the property when the office is closed and reports any safety or security issues to the General Manager, or local authorities if warranted. He or she also serves as the property’s emergency contact after office hours and assists guests as needed.
The Courtesy Officer is not a security guard. As such, and as specified in the employee handbook, he or she is prohibited from possessing a firearm, or dangerous or deadly weapon while on InTown property. It is the function of the Courtesy Officer to be on watch for any safety or security issues, or suspicious activity. If such events are observed, the Courtesy Officer must not interject himself or herself into the situation. Rather, he or she should contact the proper authorities or GM to take further action.
He or she must be able to establish good communication and professional relationships with property guests. The Courtesy Officer must be proficient in the English language, both spoken and written. The Courtesy Officer is required to live on property during the term of employment and is required to follow all guidelines outlined in the “Terms of Guest Agreement” provided to guests. .
The Courtesy officer is required to be on call between five and six days per week as jointly determined by the Market Manger, General Manager and Courtesy Officer. On-call times are from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM Monday through Saturday and 7:00 AM Sunday to 7:00 AM Monday. The Courtesy Officer is required to complete three thorough inspections of the property each night scheduled, Monday through Saturday, and six thorough inspections on Sunday. Generally, rounds should be performed at approximately 7:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and after midnight Monday-Saturday. On Sundays, five evenly spaced rounds are performed between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM and one round after midnight. The Courtesy Officer also walks to the GM to his or her car after the office closes.
Essential Functions:
- Respond to guest complaints and/or concerns in a professional and courteous manner, both in person and on the phone.
- Contact GM, police or other emergency service providers as needed.
- Ensure that all storage and employee areas are secured nightly.
- Obtain guest list nightly to ensure that only authorized guests are allowed access to rooms and the property. Note any issues on Daily Action Plan for GM investigation.
- Obtain a Vacant Room Report to ensure all vacant rooms are secured nightly.
- Call GM or Market Manager immediately regarding any safety, security issues or with urgent questions.
- Notify Supervisor of any guest concerns.
- Verify ID and provide access to rooms for guests who become locked out.
- Assist guests with minor maintenance issues.
- Document all rounds and any incidents on the Courtesy Officer Checklist.
- Assist in removal of litter and debris from grounds.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Requires regular lifting/moving of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds, as well as frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling.
