Under the general supervision of the Visual Project Manager, the Property Master is accountable for the development of strategies related to HSN’s visual/scenic inventory supporting the live show, content and creative areas of business. This includes strategic initiatives around the procurement or production, inventory, care and maintenance of all visual assets (props, furniture and fixtures) associated with HSN’s live broadcast, creative content, digital content productions and other platforms as necessary. Individuals in this position are accountable to supervise a staff of prop related coordinators while overseeing attendance, scheduling and the process of delivery, placement, strike and return of props, furniture and fixtures. The Property Master is also responsible for the purchase and organization of the TV Creative team supplies and expendables.
The Property Master is responsible to identify and make collaborative decisions regarding prioritization of budget spending, acquisition and prioritization of assets, brand relevance of assets, cost effective inventory outlook, efficient repair and maintenance strategies, and asset tracking for procurement accounting purposes. This may include partnering with the Visual Project Manager. Individuals in this position are responsible for making independent decisions that optimize the value of assets, storage and space.
The Property Master acts as an advisor to internal customer groups (Stylists, Art Directors, Set Designers, Producers etc…), advising on all matters and best practices related to HSN’s visual physical asset inventory along with digital photo asset management tool. Individuals in this position are responsible for the development, data documentation and management of relationships with external vendors and asset providers.
The Property Master has the authority to develop strategies related to HSN’s visual/scenic inventory ensuring the highest quality viewer experience. Individuals in this position are accountable to make independent and collaborative decisions in conjunction with internal clients ensuring that HSN’s visual assets are trend relevant and brand right and that strategic initiatives are executed within budgetary guidelines and in accordance with HSN’s high production and safety standards.
The Property Master with the support of the Visual Project Manager is responsible to make decisions regarding prioritization of prop budget spending, acquisition and prioritization of assets, cost effective inventory disposition, efficient repair and maintenance strategies, along with asset tracking for financial accounting purposes.
Individuals in this position are responsible for the development of processes and procedures that optimize the value, tracking and organization of assets, storage and space. This individual also has the authority to make independent operational decisions responding to unexpected situations impacting HSN’s visual assets.
Day in the Life
  • Optimize the value of assets, storage, and space by establishing and communicating best practices for scenic asset inventory.
  • Supervise a staff of prop related coordinators while overseeing attendance, scheduling and the process of delivery, placement, strike and return of props, furniture and fixtures. (This includes the transportation of props and furniture elements between broadcasting site and offsite storage location.)
  • Recruit and train and maintain a Full Time Props Team and On Call support team.
  • Acquisition (fabrication and/or purchase) of new visual assets (props, furniture and fixtures) by establishing and managing relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage decorative asset (prop, furniture and fixture) inventory.
  • Establish, manage and maintain inventory catalog system using current technology (online assets library)
  • Develop and maintain asset tracking systems and technology to ensure that all assets are delivered on time and returned as per requested.
  • Efficiently manage storage spaces by deciding on the most appropriate storage locations for visual assets.
  • Develop strategies for cost effective disposition of inventory that support brand and trend relevance.
  • Develop strategies for effective repair & maintenance of prop, furniture and fixture assets.
  • Manage expendables inventory.
  • Advise internal customer groups on visual inventory and best practices.
  • Negotiate with business partners to ensure the best possible viewer experience on all QVC platforms
  • Support and maintain visual asset budget.
  • Assist with the design and production allocation of specialty scenic assets. (props, furniture and fixtures)
  • Oversee props, furniture, and set elements traffic, both inbound and outbound, in accordance with the set traffic schedule and with an eye towards improving efficiencies.
  • Provides daily direction regarding warehouse prop or set pulls, returns and organizational tasks.
  • Clearly communicates daily props logistics, locations and delivery deadlines.
  • Manage to the storage constraints at the warehouse.
  • Research process systems issues and help with troubleshooting in order to best support business needs.
  • Assist team with overall inventory strategy including monitoring and measuring the overall inventory activity such as tracking, accuracy, cycle counting, purge and shrink and storage capacity constraints
  • Effectively communicates and builds relationships with all levels across all related business units.
  • Create and promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop policies and procedures to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Educate and advise peers and partners on systems and established procedures.
  • Build and develop relationships with internal and external business partners to ensure shared success.
  • Communicate policies to peers and business partners in both verbal and written formats.
  • Maintain safe operation of storage spaces ensuring that all property holdings are secure.
  • Create and maintain Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Identify and correct potential safety hazards.

Must Haves
  • Undergraduate degree in a Visual Design related major, and or other related field or equivalent business experience.
  • 3 years of visual design, interior design, prop, and scenic related design
  • 3 years of team supervising experience
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Understanding of industry standard software programs.
  • Must be able to build and maintain good working relationships with a diverse group of individuals and personalities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage differing points of view so the final product remains true to the objective.
  • Proven communication, organizational and space management skills necessary.
  • Must be able to comprehend, read, learn, and understand instruction both written and oral
  • Detail orientation is necessary.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to drive 24’ box truck with a manual or standard transmission.
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule including nights and weekends to support 24/7 environment; 5 days a week 8 hour shifts.
  • Ability to operate a sit down counterbalanced lift truck, or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to work within established budgets and constraints.
  • Ability to negotiate successfully with industry vendors, suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Strong background in industry disciplines: set design, live television production, visual merchandising, product display, interior design and/or environmental production design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as present and sell ideas to an audience.

Nice to Haves
  • Basic knowledge of studio production equipment including sets, props, cameras, and lighting equipment
  • 5+ years of visual design, interior design, scenic related design or property management along with team supervising experience required.
  • Carpentry, furniture, scenery, or warehouse experience beneficial.
