  • Position Details
  • The Office of Public Information and Publications at The University of Tampa is seeking a Public Information Assistant to support marketing efforts related to the promotion of The University of Tampa and its institutional goals – including enrollment, philanthropy and retention, and to support the everyday functioning of the office.
  • This position will require two distinct skillsets: 
    1)    Office Management, through managing the office budget, handling public inquiries and requests and coordinating various office matters for a team of nine professionals.
    2)    Creative content generation, through writing for print and the web, proofreading, social media account management, photography and videography. Some specific projects will be determined in part by the selected candidate’s areas of experience and interest. 
  • Duties will include:
    Office Management
    •    Managing general inquiries into the Office of Public Information via phone and email.
    •    Tracking the Public Information budget, including handling check/purchase requisitions, paying bills and forecasting budget needs.
    •    Compiling information and calendars for various publications.
    •    Handling campus photo requests and location scouting.
    •    Managing office matters, including supplies, equipment and inventory.
    •    Greeting any office guests with professionalism.
  • Marketing Content Generation
    •    Writing and distributing press releases about university events and activities.
    •    Writing web content about university matters.
    •    Writing content for University publications, such as the UT Journal and newsletters.
    •    Posting content (text, photo, video) to social media.
    •    Proofreading various publications for grammar, style and overall messaging.
    •    Assisting on photo and video shoots, as needed.
    •    Conducting interviews with students, staff and faculty for use in publications and web videos.
    •    Managing the student hometown press release program.
    •    Tracking media placements and producing regular reports about placements.
    •    Producing flyers, invitations and other marketing materials.
    •    Assisting Office of Public Information and Publications staff, as needed.•    Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
  • Qualifications:
    •    A bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas of study: advertising and public relations; art or digital arts; communication; English or writing; film and media arts; graphic design; journalism; marketing; and new media production.
    •    Ability and eagerness to learn new systems and new skills.
    •    Related work or internship experience preferred, in writing, marketing, advertising, media, broadcasting, video production or graphic design. 
    •    Experience using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office and video production software.
    •    Ability developing and producing short, professional web videos.
    •    Experience with layout, graphic design and photo editing.
    •    Experience in copywriting and copyediting.
    •    Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    •    Ability to manage time wisely, pay close attention to detail and adhere to deadlines.
    •    Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
    •    Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
