The entry-level knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) needed to perform job duties are:
Expert knowledge of social media platforms, social media content development, management and analytics tools. Extensive knowledge of AP writing style guide. Some knowledge of design, photo and video editing software. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license; pass Level 2 background check; work with or without close supervision or direction. Must be highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities. Skilled in copywriting and editing, communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Must have strong customer service, public relations, and presentation skills. Telework is available for the right candidate.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in journalism, public relations, communications marketing, or natural sciences. 2+ years of social media management experience required. Must pass a Level 2 background check and possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to provide examples of relevant work.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will serve as the social media specialist for the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI), a division of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This position requires a strong story-teller who will be responsible for developing and executing social media strategy. This position will make use of photography, videography, storytelling and streaming skills to create content in support of the FWRI’s research, staff, goals and initiatives. Informs and educates through social media posts on primary platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr) that encourage conversation and engagement; provides social media coverage at select events that occur during and after regular work hours; monitors social media sites and coordinates responses to comments, complaints and compliments in a manner that provides positive responses and reflects well on FWRI. Provides data-driven insights on our social media presence and adjusts strategy to enhance effectiveness. Creates social media guidelines, tools, policies and best practices for our staff; advises on content strategy and encourages cross-promotion; collaborates with other members of the Communications team to maximize the sharing of content; serves as FWRI representative and lead at social media strategy planning meetings. Plans, creates and implements editorial content calendars across various social networking platforms. Develops content, campaigns, and initiatives across each social media channel to reach and grow diverse audiences.

Due to the critical responsibilities of this position, the employee may be required to respond outside of normally scheduled hours to address operational needs. Much of the job duties for the Public Information Specialist position will take place indoors in an office environment; however, the position may be required to visit sites around the state and to spend time outdoors in the field or on a vessel. Performs other duties as assigned.

WHAT IS OPS EMPLOYMENT? Other Personal Services (OPS) temporary employer/employee relationship used solely for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees do not fill established positions and may not be assigned the duties of any vacant authorized position. OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment and terminations at the pleasure of the agency head or designee.
